Our vision is for a healthy river system where all interested sectors, groups or individuals may contribute towards restoring the natural environment to benefit people and wildlife now and in the future.
The Arun and Western Streams Catchment Partnership is one of over 100 catchment partnerships across the country working to improve the state of our rivers.
We follow the Catchment Based Approach (CaBA):
We integrate management of land and water, working across our riverscapes
We address each river catchment as a whole
Together our partnership delivers crosscutting practical interventions on the ground
These result in multiple benefits including:
Improvements to water quality
Enhanced biodiversity
Reduced flood risk
Resilience to climate change
Health and wellbeing benefits for local communities as they engage with and take ownership of their local river environment.
Our partnership is formed of 53 people representing 29 organisations - Environmental NGOs, Water Companies, Local Authorities, Government Agencies, Landowners, Angling Clubs, Farmer Representative Bodies, Academia and Local Businesses.
The Western Sussex Rivers Trust (WSRT) host this partnership.
Catchment Plan:
Together we have developed our Catchment Plan, packed full of insights into the challenges facing our water environment, and our opportunities to make a difference. It also describes how we will tackle these challenges with targeted actions, with partners working together for clear improvements to our riverscapes.
Now we’re working hard to secure the funding needed to make this happen!
